Description
Fall in New England means fresh apple cider!
But not just any cider: Downeast’s Overboard 8% Cider, made from fresh, unfiltered, locally sourced apple juice. Goodnow Farms have been fans of Downeast for a long time, and now they’ve combined their favorite flavors into one incredible bar. To craft this bar they soaked their directly sourced Zorzal cacao nibs in TWENTY THREE GALLONS of Overboard 8%, so all of the fresh, sweet and tangy apple flavor is in the chocolate. And, since the alcohol evaporates during the drying process this bar is alcohol-free.
This seasonal bar won’t be here long so grab yours while you can!
About Downeast
They love Downeast Cider. This local cider house crafts flavorful, delicious and refreshing unfiltered hard cider in the heart of East Boston. One of the founders is actually from right here in Sudbury, too!
To craft their Unfiltered Overboard 8% Cider, they expertly ferment unfiltered juice from locally farmed apples. Why unfiltered? That’s where all the best flavors are! They take this same approach with all of their handcrafted ciders, from their Original Blend to fall-favorites Pumpkin and Apple Cider Donut.
Always flavor-focused, Downeast has become the biggest cider brand in New England, and you can also find them in 18 states (and the District of Columbia… which should be a state already). You can also visit their Cider House Taproom to get a glimpse of the operation and taste the unfiltered deliciousness for yourself!
About our Zorzal Cacao
The 1000 acre Zorzal Reserve in the Dominican Republic was originally envisioned as a pure conservation land trust approach to preserve biodiversity using the Bicknell’s thrush as a landmark species. However, shortly after the reserve was designated in 2012 founder Charles Kerchner saw an opportunity to not only help local farmers receive higher prices for their cacao but also raise funds to help with management of the reserve. This was the inspiration for Zorzal Cacao. For more information and pictures from our trip please visit their Zorzal Cacao page, and the Zorzal website.
Tasting Notes: With a rich and refreshing aroma, delicate, sweet apple flavor combines with notes of rich, dark chocolate. As the chocolate melts on your tongue, the cider’s yeasty notes come forward and then finish as a slightly tart apple fudge.
