Made at 100 Mistérios—Portugal’s smallest cannery—this refined octopus pâté blends tender Atlantic octopus with olive oil and aromatics for a clean, coastal flavor in silky, spreadable form.

Craft, Origin & Maker Story

José Gourmet produces this pâté entirely in-house at 100 Mistérios, their micro-cannery and the smallest in Portugal. Here, octopus is simmered until tender, then blended with extra virgin olive oil, tomato, onion, garlic, and warm spices. The recipe echoes traditional Portuguese caldeiradas but is transformed into a polished, spreadable preparation that highlights clarity of flavor and refined texture. Every tin reflects the cannery’s devotion to small-batch precision and true coastal cooking.

Usage & Pairing Ideas

Spread onto toasted bread, crackers, or baguette. Brighten with lemon or herbs. Fold a spoonful into warm potatoes, rice, or seafood pasta, or serve as part of a tapas board. Pairs beautifully with crisp whites, mineral-driven reds, or fino sherry.

Why We Love It (Caputo’s Perspective)

Octopus pâté is rarely executed with restraint. This one is clean, balanced, and deceptively simple—letting the true flavor of Atlantic octopus shine. And because it’s made entirely at 100 Mistérios, every tin carries the unmistakable signature of Portugal’s tiniest and most hands-on cannery. It’s a quiet masterpiece of coastal preservation.
