If you’re not yet familiar with Waterpocket Distillery, consider this your introduction. One of Utah’s newest distilleries is raising the bar with centuries old traditional liqueurs, unique spirits, and a fresh face. We’re using their Notom Amaro here, you can find it at liquor stores around town or by visiting the distillery for their entire line. This is a great way to introduce amaro to your home bar, but also try this with a ice cube, neat, or stirred into your next cocktail. (Wanna know more? My take here on the classic hot toddy replaces whiskey with Waterpocket’s Notom Amaro and we’re swapping out the usual sweeter honey for deep, savory, and slightly bitter chestnut honey. I’m also omitting lemon juice as I find it a bit overpowering for the amaro, but feel free to take control of your toddy as you see fit. The combination of Amaro and chestnut is herbaceous, complex, and lovely stirred with hot water. Try your favorite honeys, amari, and citrus as you see fit.

Notom Hot Toddy
Serves 1

• 2 ounces Waterpocket Notom Amaro
• 2 teaspoons chestnut honey
• Hot water
• Orange wheel, for garnish

Stir amaro, honey, and hot water together in a mug. Float an orange wheel in your toddy. Turn off all electronics and enjoy some human interaction with friends and family.

I’ve finally done it. I, Adri, of gifting procrastination and of slow wrapping skill, have completed my holiday shopping EARLY.

Tony may be sporting the last of our winter black truffles, but fear not! The long awaited white truffles are on their way to our stores, and hopefully the next stop is your dinner tables. Your favorite Caputo’s monger has the scoop on how to best use them, but if you’re lucky, you can catch Tony himself for his favorite recipes, and new fashion accessory?

Tis the season for indulging in sweet treats. That’s how it goes, right? Well, it is now. Mix up something familiar and fun with a warm and local spin. Caramel apples aren’t just for fall, anymore. We’re taking the apple cider back to its roots and mixing in a locally made, honey caramel based sauce for a treat worthy of Santa’s discerning palate.

The caramel sauce used to mix into the cider can be saved for up to two weeks and drizzled over breakfast pastries, cakes, and stirred into any other hot drink you might be mixing up. Consider making more than you might need for the morning after’s french toast.

Caramel Apple Cider
Serves 4

• 1 quart apple cider
• 8 Bee’s Brothers honey caramels
• 3 tablespoons heavy cream
• Salt
• Cinnamon stick, for garnish (optional)

Heat cider in a saucepan over medium heat to a simmer, keep warm.

In a separate saucepan, combine honey caramels and cream over medium-low heat, whisking constantly. remove to a bowl or jar when mixture just comes together (we’re not looking to cook the caramel any further), and season with salt.

Stir cider and a tablespoon or two of the caramel sauce together in a mug and serve with plain or with a cinnamon stock garnish. Keep any remaining caramel refrigerated for up to two weeks.

So, the gifts are almost all wrapped, the tree is already coming apart thanks to your four-legged family members, you’ve threatened Santa’s visitation rights to your kids more than you care to admit, AND WHERE IS THE SNOW? You deserve a break, a sweet indulgence of sorts, and a drink. Let’s combine all of those into one lovely, warm cocktail to soothe your soul and melt away the stress.

If you’re not yet familiar with Waterpocket Distillery, consider this your introduction. One of Utah’s newest distilleries is raising the bar with centuries old traditional liqueurs, unique spirits, and a fresh face. We’re using their Notom Amaro here, you can find it at liquor stores around town or by visiting the distillery for their entire line. This is a great way to introduce amaro to your home bar, but also try this with a ice cube, neat, or stirred into your next cocktail. (Wanna know more? Come to the class we’re hosting them at here!)

My take here on the classic hot toddy replaces whiskey with Waterpocket’s Notom Amaro and we’re swapping out the usual sweeter honey for deep, savory, and slightly bitter chestnut honey. I’m also omitting lemon juice as I find it a bit overpowering for the amaro, but feel free to take control of your toddy as you see fit. The combination of Amaro and chestnut is herbaceous, complex, and lovely stirred with hot water. Try your favorite honeys, amari, and citrus as you see fit.

Notom Hot Toddy
Serves 1

• 2 ounces Waterpocket Notom Amaro
• 2 teaspoons chestnut honey
• Hot water

Stir amaro, honey, and hot water together in a mug. Turn off all electronics and enjoy some human interaction with friends and family.

So, you’re having a party—your friends, their kids, your kids, their parents, your parents, and who knows who else. They’ll all be attending, and you need a few treats to satiate them. First, I admire each and every one of you for hosting parties this season. Second, I know you’ll want to have an impressive table of grub. Third, I hope you get some sweet host gifts for throwing such a great party.

We hosted our very own Caputo’s party just a few days ago using our very best tips and tricks (many thanks to Matt and Yelena for hosting at their beautiful home). Our managers, mongers, and co-workers gathered for a festive get-together just before the boom of the holidays came crashing down upon us. I must say, we know how to throw a pretty fantastic—and filling—party.

Libations: This is the most necessary component to any party. Drinks—alcoholic or not—are a good way to make guests comfortable. We recommend one featured drink for the party, wine and beer, and a few nonalcoholic options as well. I started a big pot of mulled wine only 30 minutes before all our friends arrived. I love mulled wine for parties, because it’s easy to replenish and keep warm on the stove. We also used this party to test our Rosemary Gimlet out, which takes a bit more work at a large party, but is easy to make in batches for 3-5 people at once. We, of course, had plenty of Squatters beer and Ruth Lewandowski wine on hand as well. We keep ride-share apps and taxi numbers handy for anyone who may not be comfortable driving home after the party. Libations, check.

Food: OUR FAVORITE! This is often the most difficult part of a party for me, because making decisions. Fear not, friends. Our mongers picks and tips will help you select the very best nibbles for you and your guests.

Cheese and Charcuterie: We plate and serve these separately for larger parties since some of our pals might be vegetarian or have other dietary restrictions that keep them from enjoying one category or the other. We plated a few beautiful cheese boards and charcuterie boards. Our cheeses were cubed, sliced, or served whole with a dedicated serving knife based on the cheese. Not sure how to serve? Ask your monger! We’re here to help with pairings, serving suggestions, and any info you may want to have on hand to dazzle your guests. We chose a selection that featured our favorite local and imported products. Creminelli, Avalanche, and our own Cave Aged Cheeses are a great place to start. We fill in the gaps with our favorite products from the rest of U.S. and Europe after that.

Pairings and More: Crackers, sliced bread, olives, and marinated veggies are always on hand to pair with our lovely cheese and charcuterie. We each have our favorites, but easy-to-eat finger foods like olives and pickles are always tastier when served alongside cheese and meat.

Sweets: It’s not a Caputo’s party if there isn’t chocolate! We served some of our favorite bars and rosemary brittle to satisfy those with a sweet tooth. Choose from local chocolate makers like Amano, Chocolate Conspiracy, Durci, and Solstice, then add in your favorites from around the world.

People: You’re on your own here, my friends. We can’t tell you who to invite, but I’m just throwing it out there, if I were invited, I’d bring a pretty sweet host gift.

Holidays got you stressed? Join the club! I have an awful habit of last-minute shopping with the expectation I’ll find the perfect gift for everyone. You’d think I would have learned better by now, but I have exactly zero gifts purchased and many, many lists of gifting ideas, which continue to grow.

My goal this weekend is to actually take care of some of these gifts. I’ll be making many, many batches of my rosemary brittle for my favorite baristas, bartenders, and coworkers. While the brittle is cooling, I’m planning on getting my e-shop on. I’m not much for online shopping, but I’ve found the perfect mood booster to get me through my task: GIN.

Gin cocktails are some of the first I began drinking and making for myself. I love the pine and juniper flavor profile, and I especially love it during the cool months when I’m craving a lighter libation. Gin, of course, loves rosemary. What better combination than gin and rosemary in a festive riff on the classic gimlet?

Gimlets have a storied past, but are most often a simple mixture of gin, simple syrup, and lime. As discovered in the brittle, rosemary plays very well with sweet partners. It only makes sense to gussy up your gimlet with Addition’s Rosemary Cocktail Spice. Make these for your own frenzied online holiday shopping, for your upcoming holiday parties, or for Santa. I hear his sleigh has a self-driving upgrade this year.

Gin Gimlet with Rosemary
Makes one cocktail

• 2 ounces gin (I prefer Hendricks or Ransom)
• 1 ounce simple syrup
• Juice of 1/2 of a lime
• 1 blast Addition Rosemary Cocktail Spice
• fresh rosemary sprig, optional, for garnish

In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, shake gin, simple syrup, lime juice, and Addition Rosemary until combined and chilled, usually 20 seconds. Strain into a chilled coup glass and garnish with a freshly-slapped sprig of rosemary. Imbibe immediately.
